Sri.Binoy Viswam

Minister for Forests and Housing

Conserving the forests of Kerala with its diverse flora and fauna is one of the major concerns of the LDF Government. It was a known fact that daredevil mafia groups were operating in the State Pilfering forest wealth, damaging environment and weakening administration like a canker. These nefarious activities were going on in spite of the reports coming across from all over the world that conservation of forests was essential in our efforts for survival against global warming and climatic changes. So the Government had to tread the path of administration in the Forest Department with vigil and caution. The equation existed in the Forest Department earlier was the relation of mafia corruption, stealing etc. The Government did a Herculean task to correct this. Alienation of forestland became a phenomenon of the past. Those behind the curtain were more powerful. Stringent measures were taken to stem all these. With transparent and stern steps and the participation of public, the government is going ahead. It is matter of pride that the Forest Department could be made free from the clutches of such mafia.
